Not a pretty sight indeed, Bill. I am making a complete transition to a debit card that hits my checking account. My wife and I will only use our credit cards when it is absolutely necessary and when a debit card won't work.

Larry,
I, too, am feeling the noose. Having failed to read a "change in terms" brochure I received from Chase a while ago, I was shocked and chagrined to find, with my most recent statement, that my interest rate had been increased by 50% and my minimum monthly payment had jumped by about 1/3. Tracking down the filed-but-unread document, I discovered that I had been forewarned, but by not doing so prior to the issuance of the current statement, had missed the chance to "opt-out", close the account, and pay it off at the prior rate of interest. Though I can no longer opt out of the higher rates, I can -- and will -- opt out of continuing to use the card and will close my account, unfortunately having to pay down the balance at the usurious new rate. The greed and callousness evident in the banks' behavior in tightening the noose after deftly installing it is, apparently, showing their true colors. And it's not a pretty sight.

I inhale
I can never fall in love
I exhale
I can never fall out of love
I absorb love, I release love
Love is all around, in and out
And only my breathe
on my thin membrane
defines the differences in direction.

Very funny post. I find it strange that fantasy catastrophes always seem to grab the listener better than real ones. The real world has plenty of scary stuff to worry about; why do we invent more?

I watch it (sometimes) when I'm near a TV. Roblair will put it on. You're right, it is somewhat comforting. It reminds me of a Navaho quote that I'm butchering but it says something to the effect, How can you be board when you are standing on the surface of a small orb and spinning out into the universe past stars and galaxies. I'll see if I can find the exact quote.

Bravo! I wondered when someone would notice that when Bush made his first statement after the Twin Tower bombings, in his speech, he said , I paraphrase, that the terriorist should not win, Americans should go about their daily business and go out and buy a shirt.(!?!)
